Give each page a distinct purpose
List the main question for every article in the collection. If two entries are nearly identical, clarify the scope or combine them. A growth strategy guide and an activation-rate calculation can belong together without answering the same task.
The hub should explain the collection and help readers select a path. A bare list of titles is less useful when the subject includes several buying or operating stages.
Build the connections
- Group pages around a coherent audience problem.
- Write a hub introduction that explains the decisions covered.
- Link from the hub to every eligible guide using normal crawlable links.
- Add article-to-article links where the next question is relevant.
- Audit broken links, orphan pages and duplicated scope.
Use anchor text that describes the destination. Repeating an exact phrase in every link is less important than helping the reader understand where it leads.
Cluster map
| Page type | Job |
|---|---|
| Topic hub | Helps the reader choose a relevant question. |
| Practical guide | Answers one task in useful depth. |
| Comparison | Explains a decision between approaches. |
| Measurement guide | Defines the evidence used to evaluate the work. |
Worked example: a SaaS collection
Illustrative example: a SaaS hub connects activation definition, time to value, trial-to-paid conversion and churn analysis. An activation article can link to time to value when the reader needs to investigate delay. A churn article can link to cohort retention when the reader needs a fair lifecycle comparison.
These connections follow a business reasoning path. Linking every paragraph to every other article would add clutter without making the path clearer.
Keep the architecture maintainable
Use stable, descriptive URLs and record the collection membership. When a page changes or is removed, update the hub and relevant incoming links. Do not keep obsolete pages only because they once had a place in a cluster.
Do topic clusters guarantee rankings?
No. They help organize useful content and discovery, but search visibility depends on multiple factors and is not guaranteed.
How many articles should a cluster contain?
Enough to answer distinct useful questions. Do not create a fixed count of near-duplicates just to fill a structure.
Put this into practice
Choose one subject, write the question for each existing page and draw the reader's next steps. Add the missing navigation connections before commissioning more content.
